Mauser Packaging Solutions has bolstered its presence in South Africa with the acquisition of a plastic drum manufacturing business.

The deal, finalised on 1 August 2024, sees the company expanding its production capabilities and product range to meet growing demand in the region.

Previously owned by Nampak Products and then Eliptotime PTY, the Pinetown-based facility will now operate under the Mauser umbrella.

This acquisition brings Mauser's total number of manufacturing and reconditioning sites in South Africa to five.

“This investment underscores our ongoing commitment to expanding our presence in this region and growing with our customers by delivering sustainable packaging solutions with unparalleled quality and customer service,” said Michael Steubing, president of Mauser’s International Packaging segment.

Peter Lucht, Mauser’s general manager in South Africa, added: “We are proud to further expand our plastic capacity and portfolio. This acquisition enables us to offer our customers even greater security of supply and an enhanced portfolio of products.”

The acquired site produces UN-certified plastic drums for various industries, including petrochemicals and lubricants.

Holding International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, the facility aligns with Mauser's commitment to quality and sustainability.

A key focus for Mauser is sustainable packaging.

The company's Infinity Series, to be produced at the new site, incorporates post-consumer resin (PCR) to reduce environmental impact.

Mauser's Recolene PCR material, sourced through its Recover Syst-M programme, diverts waste from landfills and conserves resources.

Beyond plastic drums, Mauser offers intermediate bulk containers and reconditioning services.

The company is the first reconditioner in South Africa to achieve ISO 45001 occupational health and safety certification.

With this acquisition, Mauser aims to strengthen its position as a leading provider of packaging solutions in South Africa, offering customers a wider range of products and services.
