McCafé, a coffee-house-style food and beverage chain owned by McDonald's, has announced a new line of commercially compostable espresso coffee capsules.

Designed for Nespresso Original Coffee Machines, the new coffee capsules are made from a blend of Rainforest Alliance-certified arabica beans.

The capsules' commercial compostability and the recyclability of their flexible packaging bags are facilitated by the McCafé Free Composting & Recycling Program, operated by TerraCycle.

Consumers interested in participating can sign up on the TerraCycle website to receive a free shipping label for the mail-back programme.

The new McCafé Espresso Coffee Capsules are now available at participating retailers across Canada, offering a sustainable and high-quality coffee option for Nespresso machine owners.

The new range of McCafé Espresso Coffee Capsules offers a variety of intensities to suit different tastes.

Customers can enjoy the light roast with sweet caramel notes, the medium roast with chocolate and hazelnut notes, or the dark roast with silky dark chocolate and roasted almond notes.

McDonald's Canada chief strategy officer and SVP Jeff Kroll said: "With the launch of the new commercially compostable Espresso Coffee Capsules, McCafé continues to raise the bar in the Canadian coffee market.

“We are delighted to introduce the delicious taste and quality of McCafé coffee to a broader group of Canadians through an innovative format compatible with Nespresso Original Coffee Machines."
