Sustainable packaging and paper company Mondi has introduced IntegoBag, a new recyclable paper bag designed for the construction industry.
Featuring a free film barrier layer, IntegoBag is designed to transport building materials while ensuring their shelf life.
IntegoBag is engineered to simplify recycling processes by integrating protective barrier coatings directly into the bag material.
The company’s FunctionalBarrier Paper provides the necessary moisture barrier, significantly reducing polyethylene (PE) content in the solution.
The production of IntegoBag capitalises on Mondi's comprehensive in-house capabilities, from sourcing fibres responsibly for kraft paper production to applying functional barrier coatings and converting bags.
This integrated approach ensures full control over the quality and sustainability of the end product.
By offering an effective moisture barrier, IntegoBag reduces plastic usage by as much as 50%.
The bags, available in bleached and unbleached options, boast high printability and are suitable for standard packaging sizes, accommodating up to 25kg.
IntegoBag has been certified recyclable following rigorous testing at Mondi's recycling laboratory in Frantschach, achieving high scores in industry-standard evaluations.
The solution aligns with the company's MAP2030 targets, which focus on developing products that are reusable, recyclable or compostable.
Mondi Italy paper bags sales manager Mauro said: “We collaborated with leading companies in the construction industry such as Saint-Gobain to make sure our new solution fits specific industry needs and creates value for all partners.
“By bringing together our expertise, we’ve developed a recyclable alternative and can avoid waste, helping our customers stay ahead of the regulatory curve. And we are excited to see that IntegoBag is already getting attention from the industry: we’ve been nominated for the Austrian Green Star Packaging Award and shortlisted for the UK Sustainability Award.”
Earlier this month, Mondi announced that it co-founded an alliance aimed at enhancing the circular economy for paper bags within the construction industry.
