Pet food supplier Fressnapf has selected Mondi’s monomaterial recyclable solutions for its dry pet food range.

As part of the partnership, Fressnapf/Maxi Zoo will pack its SELECT GOLD range with Mondi’s FlexiBag Recyclable, BarrierPack Recyclable, and Recyclable StandUp Pouches.

According to Mondi, these monomaterial packaging solutions feature strong barrier properties that safeguard the product against moisture and odour, making it suitable for packing and storing purposes.

In addition, the packaging contributes to a circular economy as it is recyclable with other monopolyethylene films on various existing recycling streams across Europe.

Fressnapf is set to use the materials to design approximately 150 pet food packaging designs from 300g up to 12kg, with all set to offer a long shelf life.

Mondi's regional sales head for Germany and Consumer Flexibles in Austria & Switzerland Fitore Loshaj said: “Consumers across the globe are calling on companies to contribute to a circular economy, and rightly so.

"Our team worked closely with Fressnapf | Maxi Zoo to design a packaging solution for its dry pet food range, that is recyclable, fit-for-purpose and visually appealing - protecting the product while being easy to use.”

The two companies agreed on the use of advanced printing technology to develop the packaging.

The new SELECT GOLD range in particular features expanded colour gamut printing along with new screening technology provided by U.Günther.

The innovative process removes chemicals from the plate production process while using less ink.

Earlier in June this year, Mondi and Syntegon joined forces to develop a recyclable paper packaging solution for dry food products.
