Mother of Pearl Vodka launches grape vodka in Frugal Bottles

The move marks the first Australian brand to utilise Frugal Bottles in its inventory.

Australian drinks brand Mother of Pearl Vodka of the Sea has launched its grape-based vodka in British sustainable packaging company Frugalpac’s paper bottle.

Mother of Pearl Vodka’s grape-based drink in a Frugal Bottle debuted during the trade show Bar Convent Singapore yesterday and today (6 and 7 November).

Frugalpac said that Mother of Pearl Vodka is the first Australian brand to use its paper-based bottles.

Frugal Bottles, according to the packaging company, are made using 94% recycled cardboard and are approximately five times lighter than conventional glass bottles.

Before being filled up, Frugal Bottles have a weight of 83g.

The bottles also consume comparatively less energy to produce and have a six times lower carbon footprint than traditionally used glass bottles.

Frugalpac said that its paper bottles come with a food-grade pouch inside for liquids.

Brands and companies can also use the 360-degree branding space provided on the bottles to emphasise the shelf presence of their products.

Frugalpac CEO Malcolm Waugh said: “We are delighted to see Mother of Pearl become the first Australian drinks producer to launch in our paper Frugal Bottle.

“More than 35 brands are already using the Frugal Bottle for wine and spirits around the world and we welcome Nic and Nicola to the paper bottle revolution and wish them every success.”

Mother of Pearl Vodka is a Melbourne-based premium grape vodka brand co-founded by Nic Hancock and Nicola Thompson Hancock.

The brand decided to transition to paper-based packaging for its vodka range to reinforce its commitment to continue promoting a sustainable and clean environment in Australia.

Nic Hancock said: “With my background in five-star hospitality, I love that we are bringing a stylish, innovative product to the Australian and Southeast Asian drinks markets which not only cuts our carbon footprint but will help reduce the hospitality industry’s carbon footprint too.”

Last month, Frugalpac and Journey’s End signed a paper bottle contract selecting Broadland Drinks as the largest filler of Frugal Bottles in the UK.
