Industrial aluminium company Novelis has secured the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V1 (2017) Certification for its operations across North America.
This achievement encompasses the company's regional management functions at its headquarters in Georgia, US, and extends to its production facilities nationally and in Canada.
Among others, the certification includes the company's joint venture site Logan Aluminium in Russellville, Kentucky.
The certification covers a range of Novelis North America's activities, including remelting, recycling, casting, and rolling processes.
It also includes the production of automotive aluminium products and beverage can coatings.
The independent audit of Novelis North America's facilities was conducted by DNV Business Assurance Services UK, with no non-conformances identified.
The audit, completed before 31 May 2023, verified the company’s compliance with the stringent requirements of the ASI CoC Standard V1.
The ASI CoC Standard V1 is designed to ensure responsible sourcing practices and establish a traceable CoC for aluminium material as it moves through the value chain.
The standard is integral to linking verified practices at each stage of the supply chain, certified under the ASI Performance Standard, to the end products of ASI Certified Entities.
This certification also ensures that entities have appropriate policies and due diligence processes to address critical supply chain issues such as corruption, human rights abuses, and materials from conflict-affected and high-risk areas.
Earlier this year, Novelis signed a new contract with sustainable aluminium beverage packaging supplier Ardagh Metal Packaging USA.
