Australian packaging company Orora Beverage has established a new aluminium can manufacturing line at its Dandenong facility in Australia’s south-east state of Victoria. 

This announcement was shared by the Victorian Government in a media release.

The new production line has been set up with an investment of A$110m from Orora.

The multimillion-dollar project is set to create up to 18 job opportunities at the site.

Australia's Industry and Innovation Minister Ben Carroll said: “We are backing companies like Orora to expand, become more innovative and create jobs because we are Australia’s advanced manufacturing state.”

The latest effort will help Orora boost its beverage can manufacturing capacity to further address the increasing demands of its global beverage customers and industries, including craft and traditional beer producers and non-alcoholic drinks manufacturers across the state.

The line is capable of supporting the production of different-sized cans, starting from slim 200ml models to the classic 500ml cans.

In addition, the company has increased its capacity and warehousing capabilities to support precision production activities at its facility in Ballarat, a city in Victoria’s Central Highlands region.

Orora president Simon Bromell said: “We are proud of the contribution we make to the local economy as a responsible manufacturer and employer in the local community. We welcome the Victorian Government’s support for Orora’s important cans capacity expansion projects.”

Orora is a Melbourne-headquartered company that manufactures and distributes sustainable packaging such as aluminium cans, glass bottles, and corrugated boards.

The company manufactures its beverage cans on a conveyor belt, in which an aluminium coil made from recycled content is chemically and mechanically treated and then cured to solidify the shape of the can.

After taking shape, the recyclable cans are then decorated, palletised, and finally shipped to customers’ plants for filling.
