Privately held packaging company Parkside Flexibles (Europe) has announced expanding its existing portfolio of sustainable flexible packaging options with the introduction of a new recyclable metallised barrier paper solution.
This metallised barrier paper has been added to Parkside’s Recoflex recyclable paper-based range, which was rolled out earlier this year.
The new paper range offers enhanced printability, heat sealability, and barrier performance.
It is suitable for use on form, fill, and seal, as well as flow-wrap packaging lines, enhancing the versatility of the Recoflex portfolio.
In addition, the new solution is designed to be compatible with the UK's current recycling infrastructure, allowing consumers to dispose of it in their household paper recycling bins.
According to Parkside, the recyclable metallised barrier paper is suitable for a wide range of food and non-food applications and is particularly suited for products such as coffee, snacks, and healthcare items.
Parkside new product development technologist Steve Hallford said: “We have taken the time to listen carefully to what our customers need from metallised material and have developed a solution that offers the functionality, performance, and operational efficiency that today’s market demands, while also meeting consumer demands for more recyclable packaging.
“As a result, the new metallised paper is ideal for many food and non-food applications, from coffee and snacks to healthcare products.”
The development's first phase included the addition of two configurations of Recoflex Translucent barrier paper and a new flow-wrap solution for ambient food and non-food applications while the second phase aimed to introduce a kraft paper and a metallised solution to the market.
The new metallised paper is a continuation of the company's commitment to innovation in sustainable packaging.
In March 2024, Parkside rolled out a recyclable lidding film solution, Popflex, to address recyclability and consumer convenience concerns of fresh produce packers and growers.
