Phenix Label has introduced a recyclable packaging solution featuring a tear-away radio-frequency identification (RFID) label tab designed to improve the scanning reliability of liquid-filled bottles on retail shelves.

The label features a RAIN RFID inlay from Tageos above fill levels.

The approach complies with large retailers’ RFID scanning guidelines and promotes sustainability by facilitating recycling.

This patent-pending design by Phenix Label addresses the challenges of tagging liquid-filled bottles with RFID.

The liquids' high conductivity often disrupts RFID tag performance, leading to ineffective data transmission.

This issue has previously limited the use of RFID tracking on such products by major retailers such as Target and Walmart, who seek precise inventory management.

The new design's tear-away tab also offers additional marketing space for brands, enhancing product visibility.

Goodwin Company has already implemented this technology, producing an RFID-tagged liquid chemical product that meets retailer mandates.

Phenix Label sales and marketing vice president Mark Volz said: "Our revolutionary new tear-away RFID label provides retail brands with a powerful marketing solution that helps them secure valuable top-shelf positioning throughout major retail stores across the country, increasing their bottom line."

The company selected Tageos' ultra-small EOS-261 M730 RFID inlay, which offers a combination of compact footprint, versatility, and reliable performance.

This inlay complies with a wide range of ARC specifications.

The new Phenix Label design meets the ARC Program RFID performance requirements from the Auburn University RFID Lab.

It is said to be ideal for health and beauty and other products.

Tageos Americas sales and business development vice president Jeremy Wade said: "We are excited to partner with Phenix Label on their ingenious patent-pending design and continue to jointly develop innovative, breakthrough solutions for their customers and markets based on our outstanding RFID portfolio, such as the EOS-261 M730 inlay.

"Phenix Label's product design provides a compelling answer to the question of how to successfully apply RFID to difficult-to-tag, liquid-filled products."
