Protective packaging manufacturer Pregis announced that it has obtained International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS at its facilities in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Visalia, California.

This certification verifies the mass balance chain of custody and traceability, emphasising Pregis' commitment to sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The ISCC PLUS certification enables Pregis to manufacture advanced recycled films, including circular, bio-circular and bio-based materials.

These certifications add to Pregis’ growing list of ISCC PLUS-certified locations in the Netherlands and North America.

Chief Sustainability Officer Ryan Wolcott noted the significance, stating: “Obtaining ISCC PLUS certifications for two additional facilities is a pivotal step in furthering our circular economy goals. This certification validates our ongoing investments in product development and our commitment to sustainability and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.”

Earlier this year, Pregis claimed to have launched the industry's first high-pressure and high-performance cushioning film, Pregis AirSpeed Hybrid Cushioning Renew PCR, with 80% post-consumer recycled content from mechanically recycled resins.

The company's commitment to a circular economy is encapsulated in its purpose – 'Protect, Preserve, Inspyre.'

Pregis said this purpose means to protect the planet by reducing damage and preventing reships. Preserve natural resources and the environment and the company said people are the “y” in Inspyre. Pregis asserted that it aims to ‘inspyre’ people to do good for the world through education, industry advocacy, professional and personal development.

The addition of these certifications for its Kentucky and California facilities underscores Pregis' dedication to delivering sustainable products and contributing to a circular economy.

By achieving ISCC PLUS certifications at multiple facilities, Pregis said it continues to enhance its commitment to end-to-end supply chain excellence and the advancement of sustainable material technologies, marking another milestone in its journey towards a more sustainable future.
