Flexible packaging and material science company ProAmpac has launched its ProActive Intelligence Moisture Protect (MP-1000) product.
The packaging product uses Aptar’s CSP Technologies’ 3-Phase Activ-Polymer platform technology to lower the moisture level in the packaging headspace, making it ideal for applications that require optimal moisture control, such as point-of-care diagnostic kits, live culture probiotics, and hygroscopic powdery food products.
The MP-1000 platforms offer the ability to remove sachets, reduce downtime, improve product quality and texture by avoiding clumping, and minimise product waste by extending shelf life.
For probiotics and hygroscopic food products, the solution reportedly adsorbs excess moisture inside the package headspace and shields the contents from moisture exposure that usually occurs when moisture molecules pass through the packaging.
The solution is currently pending patents. In Q3 of 2023, the global packaging industry saw a downward trend in patent filings.
ProAmpac senior vice president of global product development and innovation Hesam Tabatabaei commented: “This product is set to revolutionise moisture-adsorbing and protection in flexible packaging. Our extensive material science work and exclusive collaboration with Aptar has enabled us to bring the latest active packaging products to the market.”
Aptar CSP Technologies vice president of global commercial operations Badre Hammond added: “The goal of this collaboration is to transform the way active packaging is delivered and fulfill unmet needs by providing the market with a fully integrated, flexible, moisture-adsorbing, multi-layer film solution.”
At the close of 2023, ProAmpac presented its ProActive PCR retort pouches, a sustainable alternative to conventional retort options.
