PulPac has teamed up with LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW, a Danish confectionery brand, on a bespoke Dry Molded Fiber (DMF) outer shell for the 2024 LARGE ADVENT CALENDAR.

The project, which began in May this year, leverages PulPac's DMF technology to create custom, deep-drawn designs that maintain a premium look and feel.

It has already moved through various stages including product and tool design, tool construction, sampling, and production.

PulPac's product development team helps guide the design and production process to ensure that the outer shell fulfils LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW’s exacting standards.

The production was facilitated by PulPac's Modula production line in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The final product features a variety of components, with PulPac providing the DMF outer shell.

PulPac chief commercial officer Sanna Fager said: “It’s fantastic to work with passionate frontrunners like LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW, challenging us to further explore the possibilities of Dry Molded Fiber.

“The LARGE ADVENT CALENDAR is a perfect example of the flexibility of the technology, enabling tailor-made, deep-drawn designs with premium quality and unique colour options that align with LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW’s brand identity.”

The collaboration also involved the product design studio Office of Possibilities, ensuring that the packaging embodied LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW's innovative design language and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.

LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW founder and creative director Johan Bülow said: “Our LARGE ADVENT CALENDAR is the result of an intense creative journey. In collaboration with PulPac, we have reimagined the packaging to resemble our iconic liquorice jars, aiming to capture the essence of Christmas and create an experience that brings people together in December.”

PulPac's DMF technology is a resource-efficient and cost-competitive alternative to plastic and other fibre-based packaging solutions, significantly reducing environmental impact.

This project with LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW highlights the potential role of sustainable fibre-based packaging in the future of bespoke, high-end, premium packaging.

Andritz, an international technology group, recently announced a strategic partnership with PulPac, to combine their expertise to serve the alternative packaging market.
