PulPac has joined forces with fibre food packaging provider Matrix Pack and PA Consulting to introduce a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to single-use plastic and wooden cutlery.

The partners will develop Dry Molded Fiber (DMF) cutlery, with a fully industrialised cutlery set to hit the market by early 2025.

PulPac and PA will spearhead the development while Matrix will co-develop the industrialisation of the post-processing solution.

The partnership will make Matrix Pack the first producer to introduce DMF-based cutlery.

PulPac CCO Sanna Fager said: “Our goal within this partnership is to develop a consumer-friendly solution that not only meets market standards for functionality but also emphasises cost-efficiency.

“It’s an honour to work with a frontrunner like Matrix Pack. By combining the strengths of PA Consulting, PulPac, and Matrix Pack, we can accelerate development and industrialisation, bringing innovative, sustainable products to market.”

This partnership is intended to provide sustainable, high-performance cutlery that addresses both environmental and economic requirements.

DMF technology reduces water and energy usage, thus lowering costs and environmental impact.

Matrix business developer manager Dionysis Valentis said: “Dry Molded Fiber is an ideal technology for cutlery due to its strength and cost benefits from the speed of production. We are proud to work with such knowledgeable partners and to be the first producer to launch Dry Molded Fiber cutlery to the market and to the standards required by the major global brands we are working with.”

Last week, PulPac partnered with Seaman Paper, an eco-friendly speciality paper and packaging solutions manufacturer, to explore possibilities in personalised packaging.
