The switch to DMF caps will enable participating companies to cut their environmental footprint.

Fibre-based packaging products manufacturer PulPac and PA Consulting, an innovation and transformation consultancy, have unveiled new Dry Molded Fiber (DMF) bottle caps.

The sustainable cap is currently undergoing market testing with the Bottle Collective.

This innovation offers brands a more environmentally friendly cap option, aligning with consumer demands for sustainable products.

The fibre-based caps represent a significant shift in the packaging industry, substituting traditional plastic caps with a greener alternative and encouraging a move towards higher fibre content in various packaging applications.

This initiative is the first in a series of advancements in fibre-based caps and closures from PulPac and PA, with a broader range set to be revealed soon.

PA Consulting design, innovation and sustainability expert Jamie Stone said: "We are thrilled to introduce this new bottle cap as part of our ongoing work with the Bottle Collective.

"With our latest innovation in bottle caps, we’re enabling the creation of entire bottles made from Dry Molded Fiber technology, offering a sustainable and scalable alternative to single-use packaging."

The Bottle Collective, which includes members such as Diageo, Logoplaste, Haleon, and Sanofi, is a joint effort established by PulPac and PA Consulting.

Their collective goal is to bring DMF bottles to the market at scale by 2025.

The development aims for products, including caps and closures, to contain more than 95% fibre-based content, aiding companies in achieving ambitious sustainability targets.

PulPac CCO Sanna Fager said: "We are just scratching the surface of this technology’s potential. Dry Molded Fiber products can be part of people’s lives in many ways, from a morning coffee on the go, to preparing the family dinner or serving a drink to long-awaited guests. Dry Molded Fiber can enhance these moments with sustainable, high-performing packaging solutions."

In May this year, PulPac announced a partnership with packaging prints and barrier solutions provider OptiPack.
