Plastic recycling company PureCycle Technologies’ European affiliate, PureCycle Belgium BV, has co-signed the Antwerp Declaration for the 'European Industrial' Deal.

Signed on 6 March 2024, the company supports the declaration’s goal to bolster Europe's production industry and foster industrial innovation.

PureCycle also supports the declaration's goals of promoting high-quality jobs, climate ambitions, and policy development to enhance Europe's economic competitiveness.

PureCycle CEO Dustin Olson said: "I had the chance to spend some time with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo in September. We discussed the future of sustainable innovation and I want to echo his words from our conversation. Europe needs a robust, competitive industry sector to help provide innovative climate solutions to Europe and beyond."

The Antwerp Declaration is a strategic move to complement the EU's Green Deal, aiming to secure a prosperous future for Europeans.

The declaration was presented during the European Industry summit 'A Business Case for Europe'.

PureCycle's planned plastics recycling facility in Antwerp's NextGen District is poised to address the declaration's calls to action, particularly in enhancing recycling infrastructure and offering consumers low-carbon, circular products.

Announced in January this year, the site is expected to have 59,000 tonnes of annual capacity, which could be expanded in the future.

The facility is expected to significantly reduce energy usage by 86% and greenhouse gas emissions by 61% when compared to traditional plastics production methods.

PureCycle European operations vice-president Wiebe Schipper said: "We are very pleased with this initiative and the leadership demonstrated by European companies, associations and organisations, many of whom we partner with.

"It is wonderful to see the number of signatories grow from 73 to over 500 within the first weeks. PureCycle is well-positioned and keen to contribute to the objectives of both the European Industrial and the Green Deals."
