UK-based prepress, flexographic plate manufacturer Reproflex3 has announced investing £500,000 to further expand its existing corrugated packaging prepress capabilities.

This strategic investment will allow the company to boost its production capabilities in terms of corrugated packaging.

The business will utilise this investment to establish a new dedicated corrugated packaging studio at its headquarters in Northumberland, England.

It will also be used for recruiting new employees, adding new processing capabilities, and the installation of production equipment to revamp the company’s existing corrugated packaging sites in New Zealand.

Reproflex3’s facilities in New Zealand are located in Auckland and Christchurch.

The latest infrastructure upgrade project at these two sites will involve the installation of a new plate processing machine, two AV mounting tables, as well as a washout facility.

All these upgrades will help Reproflex3 to address the requirements of broader format jobs and boost its existing production efficiency.

According to Reproflex3, all these efforts together will allow it to achieve faster turnaround times while also improving overall accuracy and consistency.

Reproflex3 CEO Andrew Hewitson said: “We are investing to create a new category in the print sector by increasing print quality, print process stability and print efficiencies.

“This is just the start of our investment into corrugate. We plan to grow globally as well as locally as the market responds to our innovations.

“We will continue to work strategically with companies that have a vision to accelerate their growth and profitability as we’ve successfully done so with the flexible packaging industry.”

The latest move builds on the company’s successful live trial of its Vortex screening technology, which can be used by corrugated and paper-based packaging manufacturers to produce higher-quality prints.

Recently, Reproflex3 partnered with BoxWay to provide its Vortex technology to improve print quality, reduce dot gain, and optimise ink coverage for the company.

Metaverse in the packaging sector

Many of the vital metaverse technologies are already being used or piloted by packaging companies, who have brought together AI, AR, VR, cloud, the IoT, and other technologies to monitor and maintain key assets remotely. The sector could also use immersive metaverse solutions to optimize packaging design and quality control—testing prototypes in a virtual world before bringing them to market. Another disruptive benefit of the metaverse will be using underlying blockchain and digital twin technologies to assist in creating more transparent and traceable supply chains.
