Vital Pet Life has joined forces with rePurpose Global, a plastic action platform with a mission to remove plastic waste from the environment while enabling livelihoods for marginalised waste workers across the globe.
Vital Pet Life will fund the removal of 18 grams of ocean-bound plastic per bottle it sells through rePurpose's Impact Guarantee programme.
Vital Pet Life's specific impact programme is Project Laut Yang Tenang, which aims to stop ocean-bound plastic waste from ending up on Indonesia's coasts while protecting its ecosystems and biodiversity.
The project focuses on recycling flexible low and high-density polyethylene (LDPE and HDPE) plastics, which tend to be ignored by local waste collectors due to their low market value.
Vital Pet Life CEO and founder Donie Yamamoto commented: "With increased climate change, there is an urgency to create clear action plans. Through this partnership, we're taking action on our global plastic crisis, while educating our customers who support our commitment to our ESG (environmental, social and governance) practices."
Vital Pet Life is a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition and the Pet Sustainability Coalition and is MSC (Marine Stewardship Council)-certified sustainable.
rePurpose Global CIO Aditya Siroya added: “We hope Vital Pet Life’s commitment pushes more brands to take responsibility for the plastic that they are generating.”
In late 2023, rePurpose Global partnered with 102 grocery brands to tackle the plastic waste crisis across the globe.
