US-based plastic action platform rePurpose Global has revealed that 102 grocery brands have joined forces with it to tackle the plastic pollution crisis across the globe.

Among others, some of the brands joining the initiative include Lil Bucks, SafeCatch, Vahdam Teas, Hope Foods, Cocojune, Sunwink, and MadeGood.

By working together with rePurpose, these brands will measure their respective plastic footprint and subsequently implement solutions that can reduce this footprint.

The partnership aims to support action that will divert plastic waste from entering natural ecosystems.

rePurpose CEO Svanika Balasubramanian said: "We are excited to see our partners in the grocery and retail industry taking proactive steps to address the plastic pollution crisis. Their commitment to reducing plastic sets a remarkable example for others in the industry.

“We hope that by putting a spotlight on plastic reduction and plastic alternatives that have the potential to turn the tide on plastic pollution, we reach zero plastic pollution even sooner.”

The aforementioned brands have been contributing to rePurpose's Impact Projects such as Laut Yang Tenang, Neela Sagar, Sueño Azul, Neela Sapana and others.

The brands have also helped expedite the feedstock availability of post-consumer recycled materials and supply critically needed waste collection services to underserved communities. They also support the livelihoods of more than 1,200 waste workers across the globe.

Annually, they have helped rePurpose to recover more than 2.5 million pounds of plastic waste from entering the ecosystem in various countries, including Indonesia, India, Kenya, Colombia, Ghana, and the Dominican Republic.

rePurpose has partnered with 14 household brands from across the world to also help combat the rising issue of plastic pollution.
