RetuRO, a deposit return system (DRS) administrator, has inaugurated its third regional beverage packaging collection centre in Brasov, Romania.
The new facility, situated within the VGP logistics park, boasts a processing capacity exceeding 240 million DRS packages annually.
Occupying a 3,300m² area, the Brasov centre is equipped with advanced packaging processing technology, including counting machines for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and aluminium cans, glass packaging counters, glass storage bunkers, and baling presses.
The centre is strategically positioned to serve the counties of Brasov, Harghita, Covasna, and Sibiu, as well as the surrounding areas.
The Brasov facility will employ 40 staff members and the administrator expects to create approximately 500 green jobs across the country.
The facility's launch follows the opening of RetuRO's second centre in Giarmata, Timiș County, in February this year, and the first in Bonțida, Cluj County, in November last year.
These three centres will have a reported combined substantial processing capacity of 1.7 billion DRS packages annually.
RetuRO Directorate CEO and president Gemma Webb said: “Currently, we have three operational RetuRO centres, which can collectively process over 1.7 billion packages annually, more than three times the total number of SGR packages introduced on the market so far.
“We will continue to focus on expanding the infrastructure, and in the next three months, we plan to open centres in Ilfov, Dolj, Bacau, and Prahova counties.
“SGR is a premiere, but also a huge opportunity to improve Romania, with a cleaner environment and encouraging responsible behaviour at the individual level."
