SCREEN Graphic Solutions has announced signing an agreement with Tokyo, Japan-based company Chiyoda Gravure to promote the use of digital printing for use on flexible packaging materials.

As part of this collaboration, the two companies have worked together to install SCREEN’s new water-based digital inkjet system, called Truepress PAC 830F, at Chiyoda’s facility.

Designed for flexible packaging, Truepress PAC 830F is a high-speed inkjet system that uses drop-on-demand inkjet technology.

It can handle up to 830mm-wide media at a speed of 75m per minute, with a resolution of 1,200dpi x 1,200dpi.  

SCREEN said that this inkjet press has been developed specifically to support full-scale mass production of small- to medium-lot jobs.

The CMYK and white water-based inks used in the Truepress system are also in compliance with food safety regulations, SCREEN confirmed.

Both SCREEN and Chiyoda have a common goal of expanding target applications for the Truepress PAC 830F as a production system.

The companies will also establish an enhanced digital workflow while addressing a range of issues that take place during small- to medium-lot production processes.

Some of these common issues include low productivity, strain on operators, as well as significant losses due to the discarding of unused products.

SCREEN and Chiyoda have further pledged to upgrade the work environment at the flexible packaging production sites.

According to SCREEN, the latest initiative will support its corporate purpose of 'innovation for a sustainable world' as well as Chiyoda’s corporate philosophy of 'trust, continuous growth and human resource development'.

In the near future, both companies will focus on supporting the wider goal of establishing an optimal production flow to support the continuous digital transformation of the flexible packaging market.
