Sidel has aided Italian mineral water producer Ferrarelle Società Benefit in installing aseptic technology to produce its product range of Vitasnella ‘Le Linfe’ functional water and teas.

The company is now utilising Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis dry preform decontamination solution to package sensitive beverages at its plant in Boario.

Ferrarelle Società Benefit is one of the largest mineral water producers in Italy and sources water for its Boario plant from nearby mountains in the province of Brescia.

To produce the Vitasnella 'Le Linfe' product range, Boario’s line is capable of handling 500ml and 1.25 litre-formats and reportedly achieves 18,000 bottles per hour.

Aseptic Combi Predis has now been installed in more than 200 solutions worldwide, including for Chinese company Hainan Chunguang Foodstaff’s production of coconut milk. No water is used in the preform process and the use of chemicals is reduced.

Ferralle's Boario plant director Marcelo Astrini commented: “As our only line producing sensitive beverages, it was crucial that we had an aseptic system that could ensure the highest level of product safety and integrity.”

Ferrarelle operations director Nicola Tignonsini added: “‘Le Linfe’ functional waters and tea ranges are extremely important for us, and we wanted to avoid any potential risks. That’s why we decided to turn to Sidel, given their extensive expertise in aseptic technology.”

Metaverse in the packaging sector

Many of the vital metaverse technologies are already being used or piloted by packaging companies, who have brought together AI, AR, VR, cloud, the IoT, and other technologies to monitor and maintain key assets remotely. The sector could also use immersive metaverse solutions to optimize packaging design and quality control—testing prototypes in a virtual world before bringing them to market. Another disruptive benefit of the metaverse will be using underlying blockchain and digital twin technologies to assist in creating more transparent and traceable supply chains.
