Packaging company Sirane Group has launched a new plastic-free and recyclable butter wrap, called ‘Earthfilm Butter-Wrap’.

The new offering, which is available in a range of barrier options, has been added to the company’s existing ‘Earth Packaging’ range.

Earthfilm Butter-Wrap leverages coated paper, providing an easy-to-recycle alternative to less sustainable butter wraps that are currently being used across the industry.

The company said that the coatings used for this solution are derived from water-based barriers, which help protect from both grease and moisture.

Alternate butter wrap options that are currently offered by the company include standard, Xtra, and Ultra.

The Xtra variant comes with a moisture barrier on both sides while Ultra is comprised of a metallised film that offers improved barrier properties alongside a metallised finish.

According to Sirane, all its butter wraps are printed in-house using exclusively water-based inks.

Sirane managing director Simon Balderson said: “We are expanding our popular Earthfilm range by adding butter wraps, which are sustainable, recyclable and plastic-free.

“Our Earthfilm Butter-Wrap is exciting news for the butter industry. It’s got all the properties of butter wraps currently used, but crucially is paper-recyclable.

“We can even provide metallic gold or silver papers, giving the same aesthetics as the packaging currently used - while still offering a paper-recyclable product.”

The company’s Earth Packaging range, which has been designed to improve its green credentials, aims to minimise both packaging and food waste.

In February 2022, Sirane announced a multimillion-pound investment to develop a site for its board division in Telford, Shropshire, UK.
