South Korean company SK Chemicals is set to introduce a circular recycling solution at the Medical Design & Manufacturing West 2024 (MD&M) exhibition in the US.
The event, taking place in Anaheim, California, from 6 to 8 February, is a major platform for the medical device and manufacturing industry.
SK will present its conventional polyester materials used in medical device packaging and personal protective equipment at the event.
Additionally, the company will highlight materials that incorporate circular recycling technology, including SKYPET CR and ECOTRIA CR.
SK is joining forces with Pacur, a custom sheet extruder specialising in sustainable medical device packaging solutions, to address the increasing demand for recycled plastics in the medical device industry.
As part of this collaboration, Pacur will display products made with SK's materials at the event while SK's booth will offer detailed information about these innovations.
In the future, the two companies will focus on developing products with recycled content such as SKYPET CR BL, which contains 98.5% recycled content, and the ECOTRIA Series.
SK Green Materials head Kim Eung-soo said: "The collaboration with Pacur, a leading company in the US medical packaging sector, will serve as a crucial milestone in enhancing sustainability in the medical packaging field.
"We will exert more efforts to expand the supply of recycled materials in the medical packaging sector in the future."
SK has already partnered with Korea Kolmar, Cosmax, and Yonwoo to apply circular recycling materials to products such as water bottles, food containers, and cosmetic containers.
