India-based Surya Fresh Foods, a subsidiary of Surya Food & Agro, has increased its productivity by upgrading its BOBST NOVACUT 106 E Autoplaten die-cutter.

The move forms part of the company's efforts to enhance productivity and efficiency in its packaging.

In 2014, Surya Fresh Foods decided to install BOBST NOVACUT 106 E, a BOBST folder-gluer, and other machinery for its in-house print and packaging production.

The latest retrofit to the flatbed die-cutter included the addition of a non-stop feeder and a machine elevation system specifically tailored for biscuit carton output.

Surya Fresh Foods director Shrey Agarwal said: “We’ve revolutionised our BOBST machine with these upgrades, successfully enhancing its capabilities and addressing our previous operational limitations.

“These enhancements have significantly increased production speed, allowing for a continuous workflow and a substantial boost in output.”

The upgrade has allowed the machine to handle 950 sheets before needing to reload, an increase from the previous 650 sheets.

This reduction in pile changes has led to a 40% surge in production speed, all while maintaining high accuracy and without incurring additional maintenance costs.

Surya Fresh Foods' anticipated return on investment (ROI) is expected within eight to nine months.

Agarwal added: “We’re planning to integrate an auto-blanking system to further streamline our operations.”

Earlier this month, Indian company Vaibhav Plasto Printing and Packaging purchased two additional BOBST NOVA RS 5003 gravure presses to bolster its manufacturing capabilities.
