Recycling company TerraCycle has doubled down on its partnership with plant-based protein and nutrition bar company GoMacro to offer consumers in Canada a free way to recycle the brand’s packaging.
GoMacro customers can sign up on TerraCycle’s MacroBar Wrapper Free Recycling Program page and mail in any empty wrappers using a prepaid shipping label.
Once collected, the packaging will be cleaned and separated by material type to be recycled into raw formats that manufacturers can then use to make new products.
Participants can also earn recycling rewards for every shipment sent in through TerraCycle which can be redeemed as a donation to a school, nonprofit, or charity of their choice.
The partnership aims to tackle the issue of flexible plastic food wrappers, which are considered difficult to recycle because they are made of multiple layers of different materials.
GoMacro uses 100% recyclable or compostable packaging produced in the company's renewably powered manufacturing facility.
GoMacro CEO and cofounder Jola Sonkin commented: “When it comes to helping the environment, it’s crucial that we do everything we possibly can to be a part of the solution, not the problem. We’re excited to partner with TerraCycle as we continue to help educate consumers about the impact they can make by reducing waste.”
In the first half of 2024 TerraCycle partnered with a wide range of companies on recycling initiatives, including Finish, Gaviña, and Walmart Canada.
