TOMRA Collection, a reverse vending machine (RVM) provider, has launched in-store tests for its new R2 RVMs in select locations across four European countries.
The market tests began on 29 February in Germany, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
The development aims to enhance the recycling experience with a machine that is not only suitable for smaller stores but also redefines the design and usability of RVMs.
The feedback gathered will be instrumental in refining the product before its official launch in September this year.
The TOMRA R2 RVM allows users to deposit multiple containers simultaneously, streamlining the recycling process.
The machine features a minimalist design with a wall-mounted front unit, optimising in-store space.
The machine is compatible with existing TOMRA storage solutions, allowing for easy installation and flexible backroom integration without the need for extensive modifications.
Designed with inclusivity in mind, the TOMRA R2 RVM caters to a wide range of users, including those with visual impairments.
It features a user-friendly interface, touch-free operations, and digital integrations such as the drop-and-go functionality, which issues digital vouchers for recyclers on the go.
The machine was first previewed at EuroShop 2023, the world's largest retail trade fair, showcasing its concept of feeding multiple items at once.
This machine is the second product in the company's 'R' line, following the TOMRA R1 RVM, which has seen 500 installations in 16 countries since its launch.

In December last year, integrated payments and commerce technology company Shift4 entered into a partnership with TOMRA to integrate its RVMs.
