UPM, a provider of renewable and responsible solutions, has been awarded a platinum score in the EcoVadis responsibility assessment.

This rating places the company among the top 1% of the 130,000 companies evaluated worldwide, showcasing its commitment to sustainability across various operational facets.

UPM scored 81 out of 100 in the Manufacture of Pulp, Paper, and Paperboard industry.

UPM responsibility vice-president Sami Lundgren said: “The feedback from EcoVadis, both on strengths and areas of improvement, is extremely valuable and helps us to continuously improve our sustainability performance.”

“UPM’s top rating also recognises the work we have done to promote sustainability throughout the value chain. We have a comprehensive sustainable supply chain programme that drives compliance and risk mitigation and helps achieve our environmental, social, and governance targets and ambitions.”

With a global workforce of 16,600, UPM operates across six business areas, including UPM Fibres, UPM Energy, UPM Raflatac, UPM Specialty Papers, UPM Communication Papers, and UPM Plywood.

The company commits to the UN Business Ambition for 1.5°C and science-based targets.

In April this year, UPM Raflatac reported a 36% decrease in scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emission intensities from its 2015 baseline, marking a substantial stride towards its 2030 reduction goal.
