UPM Raflatac has expanded its North American operations with the opening of a new distribution terminal in Ajax, Ontario, within the Greater Toronto Area of Canada.

The facility, spanning 30,000ft², is set to enhance service capabilities for Eastern Canadian customers and joins an established network of three factories and two other terminals serving North America.

The Toronto terminal is equipped with advanced slitting and material handling technology.

The facility boasts a substantial inventory that is ready for slitting and shipping, offering customers increased flexibility, customisation options, and improved order efficiency.

UPM Raflatac’s strategic expansion of its terminal network aims to mitigate supply chain risks while ensuring ample warehousing capacity.

The Toronto facility commenced initial customer shipments on 2 October, with plans to fully ramp up production by the end of 2024.

UPM Raflatac Americas fulfilment director Alex Ramirez said: "Our new terminal in Toronto marks a pivotal step in enhancing our service to Eastern Canada. This expansion supports customer success while driving sustainable solutions, reinforcing our commitment to the industry.

“I want to thank our Implementation Team for achieving this milestone and express appreciation for the Toronto team's focus and excitement as they navigate the ongoing ramp-up period."

In addition to the new terminal, the company has terminals and offices located in Santiago, Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Mexico City, Mexico; and Guadalajara, Mexico.

UPM Raflatac, a business of UPM, offers self-adhesive paper and film products, including label materials and graphics solutions.

The company operates 12 factories worldwide and distributes its sustainable products through a global network of distribution terminals.

In July this year, UPM Raflatac acquired Belgium-based Grafityp for an undisclosed amount.
