Global technology company Voith is bolstering its involvement in the 4evergreen alliance through several groundbreaking projects aimed at improving the sustainability of fibre-based packaging.
The alliance, comprising more than 110 members, is dedicated to the entire life cycle of fibre-based packaging, from forest owners to recyclers.
Under the extended collaboration, Voith is focusing on conducting extensive research and trials, employing advanced technologies such as near-infrared and NDR measurements to identify contaminants in raw materials.
These trials are said to be crucial for analysing paper properties and detecting impurities such as stickies and polyethylene, which are commonly found in barrier papers.
The insights obtained are pivotal for the development of new pulping concepts and for assessing the effectiveness of current cleaning systems.
Approximately 70 near-infrared measurements were undertaken on selected materials to analyse their barrier properties.
Voith is part of the 'Novel Recycling Technologies' Working Group within 4evergreen's Innovation Workstream.
Voith Paper Research and Development senior vice-president Bernd Gueldenberg said: “Voith is proud to be a leading technology partner in the 4evergreen alliance, driving innovative solutions for the paper industry.
“Our expertise in stock preparation and recycling concepts enables us to actively address the challenges of the industry and achieve sustainable progress.”
