German technology company Voith has successfully completed the upgrade of the PM 2 machine at Schumacher Packaging's facility in Myszków, Poland.

This marks a significant step towards enhanced sustainability, efficiency, and capacity in the production of lightweight containerboard grades at Schumacher.

The company's production line has undergone comprehensive modernisation by Voith, excluding a few existing components.

Voith said that the rebuild of the PM 2 machine was planned with consumer priorities in mind, thereby focusing on machine availability and process efficiency.

In 2018, Voith modernised the old corrugated container (OCC) stock preparation line at the same plant in Poland.

To complement the increased production capacity and further enhance plant efficiency, this OCC line has been expanded with additional technologies.

These include Voith's BlueLine portfolio, BTG's sensor technology, and Meri's water, reject, and sludge handling technologies.

In addition, Voith has integrated some machine concepts into the PM 2 machine such as the DuoFormer D, MasterJet Pro headbox, and DuoShake DG.

Schumacher CEO Björn Schumacher said: “We are very satisfied with the rebuild of our PM 2 by Voith. As a leading full-line supplier, Voith was able to reduce many interfaces and thus reduce significant risks during the rebuild.”

In October 2023, Voith was selected to rebuild Enstra Paper’s existing PM 6 packaging paper machine in Springs, near Johannesburg, South Africa.

Non-Alcoholic Beverages Packaging Industry Dynamics

In 2022, the soft drinks sector held the largest non-alcoholic beverages packaging market share, while the hot drinks sector is forecasted to register the fastest growth during 2022–27. Rigid plastics are usually a preferred choice in the non-alcoholic beverages industry because of their portability, convenience, and lightweight nature that facilitate on-the-go consumption.
