Wandarra, an ag-tech solutions provider, has announced a strategic partnership with German sustainable packaging company PAPACKS, to address the plastic waste crisis in Australia.

The collaboration aims to revolutionise the packaging industry by reducing plastic waste and promoting environmental sustainability through Wandarra's regional resources and PAPACKS' advanced technologies.

The partners have recently signed a memorandum of understanding and are in the process of formalising an exclusive intellectual property licensing agreement for Australia and the Asia-Pacific, with a target completion date in the coming weeks.

Wandarra brings to the table its efficient logistics network and a commitment to environmental stewardship while PAPACKS offers more than 75 patent families and expertise in hemp-based sustainable materials.

The partnership's initial focus will be on the fresh produce sector in North Queensland, providing sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics through Smart Precinct NQ Queensland.

The Circular Economy programme supported by this partnership is set to develop sustainable packaging solutions.

PAPACKS will facilitate the transition by providing equipment, training, and commissioning for seamless adoption of sustainable packaging technologies.

The production timeline includes initial testing with samples produced in Germany, tailored to local consumer preferences, and training for the Australian production team in Germany.

The project's next phase is set to commence in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024.

This collaboration is expected to have a significant impact on the market by introducing leading sustainable packaging solutions, reducing landfill waste, and enhancing industrial hemp cultivation in North Queensland.

It also aims to position Wandarra as one of the key innovators in the Asia-Pacific region.

PAPACKS founder and CEO Tahsin Dag said: “Our partnership with Wandarra is a significant step towards eliminating single-use plastics and protecting valuable ecosystems like the Great Barrier Reef.

“By combining Wandarra’s resources with our innovative technologies, we will sustainably influence the packaging industry in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. This collaboration demonstrates, and practically implements, our shared commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.”
