Kibar Holding’s subsidiary Ispak Ambalaj opened a new manufacturing and production facility in Asim Kibar Organized Industrial Zone (AKOSB), Izmit, Turkey, marking one of the biggest flexible packaging plants in the country.
Developed with a €70m ($78.5m) investment, the new plant is Ispak’s second manufacturing facility in the country. It will produce packaging solutions for a variety of industries, including food, beverage, industrial, pharmaceutical and tobacco.

Investment in the facility is part of Ispak’s objective to become one of the top 20 packaging converters in Europe by 2020. It will enhance the company’s total production capacity in Turkey to 40,000t a year, enabling it to serve both European and North American markets.
Construction of the new facility began in June 2016, while operations commenced in May 2017. With the new plant, Ispak now employs more than 400 personnel across its production facilities in Turkey.
Details of Ispak’s Izmit packaging facility
The new flexible packaging facility is spread across 60,000m², including 25,000m² of closed area.
Designed as Industry 4.0 smart factory, the facility features latest European technologies for packaging and printing. It offers customised flexible packaging solutions by combining latest designs, high-technology and high-speed production capabilities.
Packaging technologies and equipment at the plant include a blown film packaging production unit, triple-layer lacquering, extrusion coating and lamination system, and automatic slitting and die-cutting equipment.
Printing technologies include HD flexo and rotogravure printing technologies for aluminium and resin films, as well as wax lamination and embossing.
The facility also includes a 10,000-pallet capacity automatic warehouse, two stacking vineyards, and automatic material handling system. State-of-the-art hygienic cleanroom production areas for food and pharmaceutical industries are also part of the facility.
A solvent recycling facility with a capacity of 5,000t a year, which minimises its carbon footprint is also installed.
The plant will source aluminium foils for its products from the group-owned Assan Alüminyum plant in Tulza, Istanbul.
Contractors involved
Kampf Schneid-und Wickeltechnik supplied six flexible packaging material processing machines for the plant.
As part of the contract, the company installed four Autoslit III-model fully automated, dual-turret slitter rewinders, and two Conslit highly automated slitter rewinders.
