Guardpack, a commercial wet wipes provider, supports the UK government’s recent initiative to ban the supply and sale of plastic-containing wet wipes.

The government’s initiative aims to reduce waste and pollution, and Guardpack is urging businesses to take action immediately.

Plastic-containing wet wipes break down into microplastics over time, posing a risk to human health and disrupts eco-systems. The items are also often packaged in non-recyclable plastic material, exacerbating the issue.

Experts state that eliminating wipes will reduce microplastic pollution and the volume of microplastics entering wastewater sites when disposed of.

The legislation is expected to launch before July 2024, and with an 18-month phase-in timeline for businesses to adapt and transition, Guardpack asserts that progress must be initiated with reputable manufacturers immediately to ensure companies are prepared and fully compliant for the change.

Guardpack’s wet wipes are plastic-free, using 100% viscose and are fully biodegradable, with recyclable laminate packaging.

The company’s general manager James Tucker commented: “This change is part of a 25-year plan and will inevitably affect both industries and consumers. It is incredibly important that businesses use a compliant local supplier to support them in this transition. If a manufacturer is prepared and ahead of these changes, they will ensure minimum disruption for customers.”

Guardpack provide products for a range of industries including personal care and hygiene, office cleaning, restaurants and catering, industrial cleaning, and travel.
