Sonoco, a sustainable packaging solutions provider, has announced its membership with Ligépack, a French association.
This strategic move aims to bolster Sonoco’s position in the French market.
By joining the association as of the end of 2023, the company will be able to offer its expertise in converting and designing packaging that is recyclable without compromising product freshness.
Sonoco plans to collaborate with other Ligépack members to make food packaging across the board more sustainable and increase recycling rates across Europe.
The company is already part of other European environmental organisations, including the European Organization for Packaging and the Environment (EUROPEN) since August 2022, and the Industry Council for Packaging & the Environment (INCPEN) since May 2021.
Sonoco Consumer Europe sales director of France Philippe Creux said: “Our team is delighted to be a member of Ligépack.
“We have already helped several food brands to convert their packaging to our recyclable, paper-based solutions, helping them to improve their recyclability and brand image, and appeal to more environmentally mindful consumers.”
Ligépack, which was established in 2011, has over 80 members and 30 partners and collaborates with packaging companies to improve their expertise, enhance quality and safety of their solutions, while minimising environmental impact.
The association provides a range of services such as consulting, design support, auditing, testing and research .
It also provides training and advice related to packaging requirements and regulations.
Ligépack director general Sylvie Moison said: “We are thrilled to welcome Sonoco as our newest Ligépack member. Having Sonoco onboard will help us to continue our mission of improving the quality and security of food packaging while reducing its environmental impact.”
In January this year, Sonoco Products reached an agreement to divest its Protective Solutions packaging business for approximately $80m in cash.
