Nua Cosmetics has partnered with packaging solution provider ITC Packaging and ADBioplastics to develop a compostable biobased bottle for Provei Global’s Biositivo brand.

Made of polylactic acid (PLA), the 500ml bottle features a dispenser top made of second-generation biobased materials, which enhances transparency and the barrier to both oxygen and water vapour.

The materials also improve impact resistance, a press release from ITC Packaging claimed.

In addition to being environmentally friendly, the materials promote organic recycling to improve circularity while reducing waste.

Provei Global CEO Sébastien Favier said: “At Provei Global, with Biositivo, we are committed to creating products that are completely integrated into the natural cycle, without producing waste.

“It is a pleasure to have partners like Nua Cosmetics, ITC Packaging, and ADBioplastics that share our vision and have helped us come up with a product that not only looks after babies but also the planet.”

The technical challenge of creating the bottle has led to ITC Packaging’s introduction of a new line of packaging named Bio2Bio.

This line complies with the EN 13432 regulation, certifying that the packaging portfolio can be composted within three months under industrial composting processes.

ITC Packaging PET business unit director Xavier Serrano said: “We help our customers in the development process of their packaging to improve sustainability and the carbon footprint. With this project we have added a bio and compostable line to our portfolio of packaging solutions that joins the other sustainable solutions developed so far (rPET [recycled polyethylene terephthalate] food and nonfood).”

In July this year, ITC Packaging partnered with Carmencita to launch a new paprika packaging container, featuring a two-sided flip-top cap and light barrier properties.
