Sonoco, a global provider of packaging products, has launched its Performance Hub in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

With an investment of up to $10m in the first phase, the hub is set to become a central element of Sonoco’s global strategy, utilising Hyderabad’s burgeoning technology ecosystem.

Sonoco president and CEO Howard Coker said: “The Hyderabad Performance Hub is a major leap forward in our digital transformation.

“By investing in innovation, we not only enhance our ability to deliver more efficient and sustainable packaging solutions but also provide local talent with unparalleled opportunities to lead advancements in technology and manufacturing.”

The new hub is furnished with modern training environments, collaborative spaces, and IT infrastructure.

It is designed to leverage data analytics, automation, and emerging technologies to drive advancements in packaging design and manufacturing.

Over the next 12-18 months, Sonoco plans to recruit around 300 technologists, with the goal of expanding to 500 over the next three years.

The hub is also set to contribute to the local economy through partnerships with educational institutions, as well as internships and training programmes for young professionals.

Sonoco added that its new Performance Hub underscores India’s strategic importance within Sonoco’s global operations.

Sonoco vice-president and chief information officer Rajeev Ankireddypalli said: “Hyderabad, with its dynamic technology ecosystem, offers the perfect environment for our new hub.

“This facility will provide a platform for local professionals to engage in transformative projects and directly contribute to global initiatives, advancing Sonoco’s technology capabilities and sustainability goals.”

Sonoco has appointed Arvind Chittora as the managing director of the hub. With over 23 years at Sonoco, he has led multiple businesses in India.
