Finland-based Amerplast has unveiled AmerGreen, a new sustainable solution for the flexible packaging industry.
AmerGreen flexible packaging has been designed to extend the shelf life of food produces and reduce food waste.

Using the solution, brand owners will be able to collaborate with local governments, city councils and retailers and develop reusable flexible packaging solutions.
Amerplast COO Reima Kerttula said: “There is no reason to delay the transformation of the flexible packaging industry into an environmentally sound business. With AmerGreen we are ready to take a leading position in this transformation process.
“Today’s consumers value sustainable packaging and we do not buy the notion that our customers would have to choose between green packaging and profits.
“On the contrary, we’re convinced that what is good for the environment is good for the business.”
As part of an agreement with environmental services provider Ekokem, Amerplast is currently developing a series of carrier bags and flexible packaging materials made from recycled plastics.
Along with PerfoTec, the company has also developed the AmerFresh packaging system to increase the shelf life of fresh produce and reduce waste by up to 50%.
The company has collaborated with biopolymer specialist Braskem to provide green PE solutions that have been entirely developed from renewable resources, such as sugarcane ethanol.
