Toppan Packaging Czech, a company of Tokyo, Japan-based TOPPAN Group, has broken ground on its new barrier film plant in the Czech Republic.
Located in the Ústí nad Labem region, the new factory will manufacture GL Barrier, a barrier film developed and manufactured by TOPPAN for use in eco-friendly packaging.
The plant will be equipped with environmentally friendly technologies, including heat reuse systems to improve energy efficiency, TOPPAN’s managing executive officer Masahiko Tatewaki said at the time of announcing its plans to build the plant in March this year.
Officials present at the ground-breaking ceremony included the ambassador of Japan to the Czech Republic, Hideo Suzuki, Ústí Region governor Jan Schiller, and others.
The new plant is set to become operational at the end of 2024.
It will serve as a strategic base for the company to cater to the increasing demand for sustainable products in the European market.
GL Barrier products are based on GL Film, a transparent film featuring a multilayer structure that combines a coated layer and a high-quality vapour-deposited layer.
Products under this brand are used in various sectors, including in medical/pharmaceutical, food, and industrial materials.
