The market introduction of BERICAP SuperShorty® is progressing. After the conversion of beer in PET from PCO 1810 to PCO 1881 in Germany, SuperShorty has been introduced for aseptic filling in China and for carbonated drinks in Europe. Within the next few months, BERICAP will increase its capacity for SuperShorty to more than five billion units.

BERICAP has enhanced its SuperShorty portfolio to a suitable level for PCO 1881. The venting capacity of the SuperShorty design has been enlarged to ensure safe venting on 2.5l bottles filled with up to 4.5 Vol%CO2. Safe venting means that the risk of blow-off has been reduced drastically for cases when consumers unscrew the closure with excessive speed. All SuperShorty variants are equipped with the well proven DoubleSeal™ system for safe sealing under hot climate conditions. In addition, SuperShorty has been perfected to ensure proper rinsing after wet decontamination in aseptic filling lines.

A change from PCO 1810 to PCO 1881 also reduces the weight of the entire package. In the case of a CSD package, the neck weight is reduced from 5.05g to 3.82g. The total weight saving adds up to more than 2g for the neck and closure. At the same time, such a reduction in resin supports all efforts to save non-renewable resources and to reduce the output of a carbon footprint.

The SuperShorty closure range consists of the SuperShorty Crown, mainly used by beer fillers, the SuperShorty CSD used by bottlers of carbonated drinks, the SuperShorty Eco, as a low weight alternative to SuperShorty CSD for carbonated water and carbonated drinks, and the SuperShorty Still for still drinks. SuperShorty is also available for hot-fill applications.

BBERICAP has converted 20 lines from PCO 1810 to PCO 1881. A number of further lines are also due to be converted soon. BERICAP supports these line conversions with its technical service team.

In order to complete the product program, BERICAP offers a three-piece push-pull sportscap for PCO 1881. A push-pull sportscap without liner and suitable for wet decontamination is in preparation.
