Detmold Flexibles produces high-quality flexible packaging for FMCG and industrial markets. Detmold Flexibles was created when the 100-year-old family-owned Charles Gabb Flexible Packaging was acquired in 2005 by the Detmold Group. Detmold Flexibles’ customers therefore receive the benefits of years of accumulated knowledge and skill available at Detmold, which enable the company to produce world-class flexible packaging.
Detmold Flexibles’ key products are flexographic or gravure printed film and paper; solvent, solventless or water-based laminations; waxed paper; and stand-up pouches with or without zippers.
Printed and unprinted rewind, pre-made bags and pouches
Detmold Flexibles offers the marketplace a comprehensive range of printed and unprinted rewind, as well as pre-made bags and pouches with or without recloseable options. The structures can incorporate polypropylene (clear or metalised), polyethylene (LD or HD), polyester, paper, foil, PVDC or acrylic-coated films for barrier, or any number of combinations of these films laminated with solvent, solventless or water-based adhesives.
The polyethylene film is sourced from within the Detmold Flexibles Group at Detmark Polybags. The Detmark Polybags business has now invested in two state-of-the-art multi-layer film co-extrusion lines, giving us the ability to further customise and tailor film requirements to suit customer needs.
An extrusion laminator currently being installed at Detmark will further enhance Flexibles’ product portfolio.
Waxed paper for twist-wrapping
Detmold Flexibles is the only company in Australia capable of producing waxed paper suitable for twist-wrapping and food contact applications.
Solventless lamination
As a long-standing signatory to the Packaging Covenant environmental concerns are high in our priorities. Solventless adhesive is used as the preferred method for lamination. Where solvents are used as part of the print process, they are recycled on site. Detmold Flexibles reduces waste by down-gauging wherever possible to lighter grades of film or paper, and using the minimum trim waste required to produce customer orders.
Shrink wrap film has replaced cardboard pallet boxes on all jobs (except for export orders), further reducing waste and cost. All usable production scrap, both paper and film, is compressed and sent for recycling.
Flexographic / gravure printed film and paper
Detmold Flexibles led the way with ‘direct to plate’ digital printing technology, and was the first in the Australian marketplace with state-of-the-art ten-colour flexographic and ten-colour gravure Windmoeller & Holscher printing technology under the one roof.
Printed film and paper rewind and pre-made bags
Detmold Flexibles produces high-quality printed film and paper rewind, as well as pre-made bags to satisfy both food and industrial packaging requirements. These packaging solutions are supplied throughout Australia and exported to New Zealand as well as parts of Asia for use by various manufacturers, ending up on supermarket shelves across the country.
Printed rewind for FMCG and industrial manufacturers
Many of Detmold Flexibles’ traditional customers are large FMCG-focused food manufacturers, who in turn supply major retailers such as Coles, Woolworths and Aldi. Such customers require consistently printed high-quality rewind, delivered in a timely fashion, allowing them in turn to respond quickly to any changes in demand from those retailers.
Other markets include industrial users whose applications vary greatly, from packaging of chemicals to wrapping and labelling uses. Detmold Flexibles supplies packaging solutions to such multinationals as Cadbury, Nestle, Mission Foods, British American Tobacco, Goodman Fielder and Fonterra.
Independent flexible packaging supplier
Attention to detail and pursuit of excellence has consistently won printing awards for Detmold Flexibles. Our customers should therefore have confidence that their carefully planned graphic designs will be faithfully reproduced by our team of pre-press co-coordinators and printers.
With many competitors amalgamating or closing manufacturing sites, Detmold Flexibles has positioned itself to help customers who are looking for an alternative to their limited range of traditional suppliers. The company remains the only independent flexible packaging player in Australia, capable of offering both flexographic and gravure printing on state-of-the-art presses.
