Atlas Converting Equipment is pleased to confirm it has achieved significant sales of its Titan ER610 compact slitter rewinder to film producers and converters throughout South America in the last six to 12 months. This follows successful sales of the machine in Mexico where 12 Titan ER610 slitters have been installed in the last two years.
Several important converters in Chile have found the ER610 to be a cost-effective and high-performance solution for increasing slitting capacity. Plastyverg located in Santiago is expanding its converting activities to include slitting for the first time and will install a Titan ER610 machine during the second quarter of this year. Plastyverg was established more than 40 years ago and has become a leading manufacturer and supplier of polyethylene films throughout Latin America for shrink and stretch-wrapping palletized and multi-pack products for both consumer and industrial applications. The company also produces a range of printed films for sleeves used in beverage labelling.
Edelpa (Envases del Pacifico) also located in Santiago, Chile, installed its first Titan ER610 slitter last year and has been so pleased with its performance that it has ordered a second machine which will be in production within the next few months. Edelpa is Chile’s leading producer of flexible packaging materials for food and beverage applications and supplies customers throughout Chile, the rest of Latin America and in the US.
The Alusa Group (Aluflex), with extensive production facilities in Argentina, Peru and Chile and offices throughout the Americas, installed a Titan ER610 slitter at its production plant in Argentina in 2009 and will install a second ER610 slitter at its Santiago plant in Chile later this year.
Titan is represented and supported throughout South America by Comercio Digital based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was directly involved in the negotiations of the Titan slitters recently sold and installed in Chile.
In addition, OPP Film of Peru has recently commissioned a fourth Titan ER610 slitter rewinder at its production facility in Lima, with one ER610 slitter already in production at its factory in Argentina since 2008. Atlas has also provided two primary and one secondary film slitter to OPP Film in Lima to complement the installation of two new BOPP film production lines.
Converters in Brazil have also favoured this Titan compact slitter in preference to other suppliers. The first 1,650mm wide ER610 machine was sold to the leading Brazilian flexible packaging supplier Finepack, located near Sao Paulo, following the success of a larger Titan SR8 slitter installed in 2006. The performance of the ER610 machine has met all expectations and the company has confirmed an interest to buy a second Titan ER610 slitter later this year.
Converplast Embalagens, also located close to Sao Paulo, is one of Brazil’s largest producers of flexible packaging materials and installed its first Titan ER610 compact slitter towards the end of last year. The company will decide whether to add another ER610 slitter during the course of this year.
Atlas has now sold more than 100 Titan ER610 slitters worldwide. The machine is available in two web widths – 1,350mm and 1,650mm (53in and 65in) – with a maximum rewind diameter of 610mm (24in). It also features a 10in touch-screen control system and an integral edge-trim extraction system. The pneumatically controlled braking system provides accurate web tension control and a digital edge-guide system controls lateral movement of the unwind reel to +/- 50mm (2in). Slitting systems available include shear knives, rotary razor (burst) or razor slitting in air or groove. Optional features include a static electricity control system, laser (line) core positioning, EU safety guarding, laser safety scanners and shaftless unwind roll pick-up from floor.
The Titan ER610 slitter can process a wide range of flexible materials including plain, printed, coated or metallized film from 20 to 200 micron, a wide range of laminates and paper from 30 to 200 gsm.
