SCA Packaging in Skovlunde asked PackLab for help in designing a new functional package with a clever opening that met hospital needs.
The old microflute package did not work for storage on high shelves in hospital storerooms. Every time someone had to get a needle, they had to take down the entire package because the opening was on top. PackLab was given the job of designing a functional package in FRÖVI CARRY. Here are the results:
Ingenious opening
The new package is meant to "lie down" and the product is taken out of the package from the short side through a new type of opening. You pull down the flap, which can be torn off if preferred since the fold is perforated. The desired quantity of product is removed from underneath. The opening is slightly rounded to make it easier to get at.

PackLab is given a wide range of assignments - everything from improving a detail on an existing package to developing an entirely new solution. "Every assignment is a welcome challenge, but I am especially pleased when we successfully take maximum advantage of the carton material and devise a functional design at the same time," says Anna Jansson, lab engineer at PackLab.
FRÖVI CARRY offers protection and safe handling for heavy products. The construction of the board uses the well-established Frövi approach - a four layer virgin fibre board with an unbleached bottom layer and a bleached (TCF= Totally Chlorine Free) clay-coated top layer. FRÖVI CARRY has the right strength properties for weight reduction and smart packaging solutions and is well-known for its high tear resistance, which has always been superior to our competitors’ boards. Other outstanding characteristics are purity and a good printing surface. Substance range 350 - 425 gsm.
