POCO, one of Germany’s leading furniture discounters, faced the challenge of finding an efficient and environmentally friendly packaging solution for its wide range of furniture, home accessories and textiles. Traditional packaging methods resulted in excessive material consumption, which negatively impacted both the environment and the company’s efficiency.
To overcome this, POCO partnered with Packsize and implemented a ‘Pack-On-Demand’ concept in their warehouse in Bönen, Germany. By implementing an innovative packaging solution, POCO was able to streamline its processes, increase throughput, reduce material consumption and improve overall efficiency.
Specifically, POCO combined a Packsize EM7 and X5 process to create a versatile and adaptive process flow. The EM7 offers the flexibility to pack large and bulky items, such as furniture, right-sized and safely. While the X5 system efficiently produces customised boxes for small to midsize products like home textiles and deco. The combination of both solutions enables POCO to meet the comprehensive packaging requirements of its diverse product range.
By implementing the solutions, POCO was able to reduce material consumption significantly. On average, the companies save 25% corrugated cardboard and at least 60% filler material. These reductions not only result in significant cost cuts but also in a remarkable reduction of CO² emissions. In addition, the streamlined process has allowed POCO to reduce the number of box sizes used, simplifying logistics and optimising inventory management.
The increased efficiency in the supply chain has led to further benefits. By minimising box sizes, POCO has been able to optimise transports, allowing more products to be shipped per truck and reducing overall transportation costs.
