Amcor, a global packaging provider, has finished building its coating facility in Selangor, Malaysia, dedicated to healthcare packaging.
The company claims that this new facility is the first in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region to adopt ‘air knife’ coating technology.
Air knife technology employs high-speed air flows to apply coatings evenly, improving the consistency of the product and cutting down on material wastage.
This facility also expands Amcor’s existing healthcare packaging operations in Selangor, creating a unified campus.
This expansion offers key advantages to local clients, including greater supply chain flexibility and quicker lead times.
Featuring advanced systems such as water-based coatings and online inspection technologies, the facility is part of Amcor’s larger effort to grow its healthcare packaging capabilities across the APAC region.
Amcor flexibles APAC president Chris Kenneally said: “Amcor’s investment in this new facility reflects our unwavering commitment to support our customers across the Asia-Pacific region.
“By introducing advanced coating technology and boosting local production capacity, we are better positioned to meet the growing regional demand for sterile, reliable packaging and to offer our customers greater flexibility and security.”
Amcor’s recent projects in the region include the purchase of healthcare packaging company MDK in China, the development of a grid lacquer paper unit in India, and the opening of a coextrusion blown film and printing plant in Singapore.
Amcor global healthcare vice-president Virginie Maes said: “Producing our industry-leading global product platform locally brings us closer to our customers, enhancing supply security and flexibility.
“By investing in advanced coating technologies and expanding our regional capabilities, we are not only addressing the growing demand for high-performance healthcare packaging but also reinforcing our promise to deliver a consistent and innovative value proposition to our customers worldwide.”
In March this year, Amcor introduced its AmFiber Performance Paper stand-up pouch, a refillable pack for instant coffee and other dry beverages.
