APP Group, an Indonesia-based company specialising in pulp, paper, and forestry products, has voiced its backing for US policies that promote environmental sustainability.

The company, which exports its packaging to more than 150 countries, has acknowledged the positive outcomes of recent legislative actions in the US.

Specifically, these measures have contributed to a decline in the use of single-use plastic bags.

More than 500 local governments and 12 states, including California, New Jersey, and New York, have imposed bans on single-use plastic bags.

This has led to a significant reduction in plastic bag consumption, estimated at approximately six billion bags annually.

In 2024, states such as Colorado and Rhode Island also implemented similar bans, underscoring the impact of policy-driven change.

APP Group said that its fibre-based packaging solutions are in line with these legislative goals.

Through its exclusive distributor, Charta Global, APP Group provides compostable and recyclable packaging products across the US.

APP Americas sustainability and public affairs head Ian Lifshitz said: “As the US combats plastic waste, sustainable solutions are essential.

“With global expertise, APP Group supports states and businesses in transitioning to paper-based alternatives. By working with businesses and listening to policymakers, we are supporting the adoption of sustainable packaging, creating meaningful change in reducing plastic waste.”
