UPM Raflatac, a self-adhesive paper and film provider, has announced the acquisition of Belgium-based Grafityp for an undisclosed amount.

The integration of Grafityp with UPM Raflatac’s existing Graphics business segment is expected to bolster its position in the product segment.

This strategic move will expand the company’s product portfolio and introduce new technologies to its offerings.

Grafityp offers self-adhesive graphics solutions, including colour films, print films, laminates, and wrapping films for various applications.

The company runs a manufacturing site in Houthalen, Belgium, and a distribution centre in the UK, employing a total of 100 people.

UPM Raflatac Films and Specials senior vice-president Timo Kekki said: “We are committed to become a full product and service provider in graphics solutions. Merging Grafityp with UPM Graphics business accelerates our growth.

“Grafityp is a leading, innovative graphics company with lot of know-how. We look forward to growing together and offering an even stronger product portfolio to our current and new customers.”

The acquisition follows UPM Raflatac’s creation of a new strategic self-adhesive business unit, UPM Graphics, which was established after the acquisition of AMC AG’s graphics business in 2022.

UPM Raflatac’s strategy includes organic growth and potential additional acquisitions to enhance its presence in the graphics sector.

In related news, UPM Raflatac has witnessed a demand recovery for self-adhesive label materials in the first half (H1) of 2024 compared to last year’s H1.

The company was also able to deploy margin management actions.

In May this year, UPM Raflatac unveiled its New Wave paper label material, which is said to be compatible with recycling systems.
